Oven & Shaker

This is by far my favorite gluten free thin crust pizza option in the Portland area. Normally thin crust gluten free pies are the saddest of the sad. Flimsy, undercooked, and no flavor - not at all the case with Oven & Shaker.

Spicy Salami Pizza with Gluten Free Crust - Oven & Shaker

I’m not sure how they do it, but they manage to deliver a thin crust that’s foldable (for easy eating), but still crispy and satisfyingly chewy. This is another one of those spots where more than one friend has told me the gluten free version is better than the original. I’ll have to trust their assessment!

In addition to the fantastic gluten free crust, they also have one of my favorite combination pizzas, the spicy salami, which has an assortment of cheeses, salami, fresh herbs, and hot honey. I’ve actually tried to duplicate this pizza by doing a create your own at other places, but Oven & Shaker does this one best!

The thinner crust also makes this pizza far more suited to be a cold, leftover snack than the thicker crust styles. Since I struggle with gluten free options at airports and on planes, I often will get one of these pizzas the night before travel and bring the leftovers with me to enjoy a couple hours into my flight. Fair warning, this pizza makes quite a mess. My hands are always covered in black char from the crust, so do be sure to bring a wet wipe!

One last note, like most non-dedicated pizza places, there is a high risk of cross-contamination here, so it is not recommended for celiac disease and only earns my “gluten free options” classification. I do appreciate that Oven & Shaker posts this strong disclaimer right on their menu so you don’t have to play 20 questions with the staff.
