Portland Fish Market
Portland Fish Market is a must-visit just for their wide variety of fresh, locally sourced fish to take home and prepare. But for anyone gluten sensitive, you absolutely need to check out their fish and chips window! It’s a rare dedicated gluten free spot serving up a wide variety of fried fish, oysters and chips! You can order for delivery too!
They sell their fried fish both as a meal with chips and you can add additional fish options a la carte to any meal order. I went with a 5 piece fried oysters and added some fried cod and rockfish. All were super crispy, light and not at all greasy.
The oysters especially pair well with their tartar sauce, while the cocktail sauce is my favorite with their fries. I’m not normally a big cocktail sauce fan (and I loathe ketchup), but this stuff is top notch with fresh herbs (dill, I think) and a really solid kick of horseradish. Really though, their fish is so fresh, light and crispy I think it’s best to enjoy it plain with just a squirt of lemon.
Portland Fish Market is open for lunch through early dinner hours, located near Reed College and the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, the latter of which would make a lovely stop either before or after.
