Tréla Greek Kitchen
I was just in Greece for the first time at the end of summer 2025 and was absolutely blown away by the food there. Despite dining at Greek restaurants many times over the years in the U.S., I’ve never had food here that was on par with what I had in Greece - until Tréla! Not only is the food amazing here, the atmosphere and service are absolutely top notch, so it’s an ideal place for just a fun evening out with amazing food to boot!
I only very recently discovered Tréla as it’s in a little pocket in the North Tabor neighborhood where I don’t frequently pound the pavement. I am told the building used to be an Irish pub. And the style of the bar, booths, and woodworking definitely give off that vibe, but it certainly works for a classic Greek taverna as well.
For gluten free food options, they do have a well marked menu, but as always, I recommend you to talk to your server as they can guide you through some recommendations and substitutions. For instance, if you want to try their mezze dips (which I highly recommend) they can serve a side of cucumbers for dipping instead of pita, you just have to ask! I was in the mood for Greek street food at my dinner, so had an assortment of the dips and went with the pork souvlaki.
The souvlaki arrived hot and fresh on the skewers with amazing, flavorful char marks throughout. It’s accompanied by a side of tzatziki, which is no question the best tzatziki I’ve had at a restaurant in the U.S.
When I returned from my Greece trip, I was so disappointed with the tzatziki at restaurants here that I worked on my own recipe to try to get as close as possible to what I had in Greece - here’s my recipe! The tzatziki at Tréla I’d say edges mine out just a little as I’m willing to bet they have a reliable source for excellent strained sheep’s milk yogurt which makes theirs a little extra rich and creamy. I was so happy to discover their amazing tzatziki for when I don’t have the ingredients on hand to make it fresh at home - I can just Doordash it! The tyrokafteri - spicy red pepper feta dip - is absolute fire here as well! That’s next on my list to try and duplicate!
Tréla also serves up excellent wine and cocktails made with Greek liquors like mastiha and metaxa. And of course you can’t forget the ouzo! They closed out our meal with a small pour of a Greek dessert wine that was also delightful and unique. Such a wonderful place and I can’t wait to go back!
